The Age of Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence (BI) refers to skills, processes, technologies, applications and practices used to support decision making

Business intelligence is relatively a new term being thrown around in business these days. When I think of what it means, I think of a quarterback and/or coach for a team. It’s a skill that can not be taught fully, it has to be layered with experience to really hold some weight. For a while I was wondering what my true skill was…I have a vast background in technology as well as real estate so I figured those were my strongest points, until recently.

What I realized about myself was no matter what industry I am in, I am able to envision or develop systems that will work and save time. It’s not that I couldn’t do other things, but my real skills involve the practice of business intelligence. The art of seeing where to take a business and how to get it there. I use the word art because business is an art; making the right decisions is like painting the correct brush strokes on a canvas…or calling the right plays in the huddle. Whatever sounds right for you! (more…)

If you are feeling uncertain, get used to it…

When you are off and trying to make it in your own there are many times where you feel like you are going nowhere. Even when I had a business where it was pulling in steady income for years, I still felt like I was just going to slow. In my opinion it has more to do with being used to some sort of schedule or feeling like we have to be busy to be productive. Although I still struggle with it today, I have come to understand this feeling of uncertainty and learned that it is just part of being in business on your own.

It is in these times where you have to really power through your emotions and believe in yourself. Sometimes just taking a break from everything for a bit can help you see things in a new perspective. I personally get frustrated when money runs low and feel like I am wasting time cause many friends of mine have high paying jobs… or maybe you have a friend in business who just gets helped out by their family all the time and now they are doing great… it’s easy to begin comparing yourself to people who you think have it better… (more…)

As Seen on TV ;)

My business partner and I recently did a Channel 9 News (WWOR) interview with Christine Persichette about foreclosures and buying properties at sheriff sale. It was a great opportunity for us and we had a lot of fun helping her put together the story. It is a “how to” piece following myself (SheriffSalesOnline) and Eric VanAuken (Broker – HomeSmart Realty) on the deals we are currently working and our daily property hunting. I hope you like it!

Think like a kid and don’t forget to be one either!

Life is short, you have to enjoy every moment. Sure there are times we want to be sad and as long as its temporary it OK.  Just don’t get all caught up in a slump!  I like to say, “Life is like a roller coaster, sometimes you just have to hold on”. I like to make jokes, be sarcastic and act like a KID! Acting like a child may be one of the best ways to turn your mood around. It takes a certain degree of humility and letting go, but once you do it’s almost a guarantee that you will have a smile on your face.  So go for it!  Who says you have to be all grown up; and if there is someone telling you that you do, maybe you should think about that too!

Paper is King; cash, letter or legal…your choice

Do you know your paperwork?

Do you know your paperwork?

Everyone has herd the popular statement Cash is King, and it’s true for the most part…but I would like to expand that a little more. More and more these days you can say that Paper is now king. We see it everywhere; from contracts, permits, letters of intent, certifications…and the list goes on. The point here is that if you learn how to do your paperwork correctly it is pretty much as good as cash. (more…)

Google Voice with Android is Awesome

So I have the G1 with Android. I know the new phone (my touch) came out but I decided to wait since they recently announced about 15-20 new android devices in the next year. Being with T-mobile and having 3 lines just for the sake of upgrades is nice as well, but somehow I managed to make all 3 lines expire in February. So much for the staggered upgrade strategy, I guess I’ll just have to stagger them after February, good thing it’s my birthday ;)

But I digress… (more…)
